Wycliffe Associates eOpportunities from Bruce Smith

It seems like it was just a few years ago that I had dinner with a couple in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and I had invited them to join our Wycliffe Associates team. Mickey and Barbara White accepted that invitation and have been serving with us for over seven years, coordinating volunteers and helping to advance Bible translation in Cameroon. They were “pioneers” for us in Cameroon, maximizing the impact of volunteers with every resource available. But, we soon realized that in order to strengthen our support for the expansion of Bible translation there, we would need additional resources. So, we set about developing a Volunteer Center to increase the available housing.

The Volunteer Center is located near the administrative and translation facilities in Cameroon’s capital city of Yaoundé. It includes two apartments, five additional bedrooms, a dining room, kitchen, and a living room area. Now that the Volunteer Center is open, the flow of volunteers is increasing—and we urgently need a couple or individual to join the Whites and serve Bible translation by managing this guest facility.

There is more Bible translation work going on in Cameroon than in any other country in Africa. Only about half of the people in Cameroon have a New Testament completely translated in their heart language. There are still 89 languages needing Bible translation to begin there.

We are looking for someone with the gift of hospitality to join our team in Cameroon. We are praying that God will use this email to link us with that person or couple. Is it you? Just reply to this email, or call us toll-free at 1-800-THE WORD (800-843-9673) for further information. If you know someone who has the gift of hospitality, please forward this email to them along with your encouragement to contact us. Ideally we’d like to begin planning immediately so that a Volunteer Center manager can begin early in 2010.

We want to speed Bible translation to the hundreds of thousands of families in Cameroon still without God’s Word, and to provide the best care and coordination possible for the scores of volunteers coming to support Bible translation in Cameroon.

Will you be a part of this team?

Blessings,

Bruce
